All of us at Pennsylvania Lumbermens Insurance Company are excited about the opportunity to deliver consistent, quality service to our customers. Within the Technical Services Department at PLM, this excitement revolves around two distinct customer centered activities. Technical Services is about developing a collaborative partnership with both our brokers and clients, and demonstrating our commitment by developing comprehensive "Blueprinting For Success" business solutions.

One of the ways that Technical Services interacts with customers is to gather and evaluate specific information that is related to coverages. The information gathering and evaluation process is referred to as completion of a business survey. The survey is designed to assemble business information, identify the exposures that can have a negative effect on the continuation of business operations and develop collaborative control strategies. The partnering Technical Services Representative develops the collaborative control strategies by consulting directly with customers and their brokers for input and application of specialized wood niche experience. By operating in this way PLM develops a joint undertaking with customers to be responsive to their needs and deal directly with technical and human interaction issues.

The second area of involvement between the Technical Services Department at PLM and customers is developing a "Blueprint For Success" for ongoing service. An individual blueprint for target loss areas will be developed with the broker and customer. Collaborative responsibilities will be mutually identified and agreed upon, with accountabilities assigned. Accountability for the "Blueprinting For Success" targets will be a joint undertaking with attention to technical issues and human interaction. Some of the types of outcomes from an effective collaborative effort can include:

  • Development of a commercial auto strategy to control vehicle accidents
  • Implementation of a Hot Work Permit program
  • Review of the effectiveness of the property conservation program
The role for PLM service activity is to partner with customers and their brokers to develop a consulting relationship that will transfer specialized wood niche hazard management expertise to our insureds.
